South Bay/Peninsula athletes of the week

Nathan Gordon, Terra Nova
Sport: Football
Position: Quarterback
Class: Senior
Led Terra Nova to its second consecutive victory, completing 22 of 30 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns as the Tigers defeated Salinas 28-17. In two games, Gordon has completed nearly 70 percent of his throws (41 for 59) for 726 yards has eight touchdown passes with only two interceptions. He also has 95 yards rushing.

Zoe King, Leland
Sport: Water polo
Position: Utility
Class: Junior
Scored four goals as Leland held off Soquel in the championship match of the St. Francis tournament to improve to 10-0 on the season. In the semifinals against Sacred Heart Prep, King finished with three goals for a program that last season won the Central Coast Section Division I championship. King, a second-team all-CCS Division I selection last season, had 13 goals, six assists, six steals and five drawn ejections in the tournament.

East Bay athletes of the week

Willem Karnthong, Antioch
Sport: Football
Position: Quarterback
Class: Junior
Helped keep Antioch unbeaten, completing 17 of 29 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers (3-0) outlasted then No. 17-ranked San Leandro 54-44. Karnthong has five touchdowns passes on the young season after throwing for 2,329 yards and 20 touchdowns as a sophomore last season.

Ella Simone, Heritage
Sport: Water polo
Position: Hole set
Class: Freshman
She had five goals, four assists and four steals in a 17-6 victory over Foothill. Three days later, she had five goals, an assist and two steals in a 19-0 win over American as Heritage improved its record to 4-0. Simone has 20 goals, five assists and nine steals overall.
