If Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. needs any help negotiating his next contract, he can call on Broncos linebacker Von Miller.
Miller threw support behind his close friend Beckham, who said this summer that he wants to be the highest-paid player in the NFL.
“Odell should be the highest paid player ever in the National Football League,” Miller said during a teleconference with Giants reporters on Wednesday. “He should be the highest paid player ever, regardless of position. That’s just the type of player he is. It doesn’t matter if it’s quarterback, offensive line, receiver. It doesn’t matter. The type of impact that he has on the globe, the type of viewers that he brings – just him as a player — that makes up for him not playing quarterback. He’s a once in a lifetime player.”
Lewis vaults into No. 1 role
Miller believes that Beckham will still be worth top dollar even after fracturing his ankle in last Sunday’s 27-22 loss to the Chargers. Beckham underwent season-ending surgery on Monday.
“There’s no reason that he won’t come back and be the same type of player,” Miller said. “That’s just one of the guys that you invest in. When you get a guy like that, that’s the guy that you invest in, that you want to keep around for his whole career.”
Beckham is coming to a contract crossroads. He is in the fourth season of his four-year rookie contract, but the team has already exercised his $8.4 million fifth-year option for next season.
