CHICAGO — If you blinked, you may have missed the Devils score on Sunday.
Forward Miles Wood recorded his first career hat trick, while the Devils erased a three-goal deficit by scoring five straight, giving them a wild 7-5 over the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center.
The seven goals marked a season high for the Devils, and it marked the first time they scored seven since March 17, 2016, in a 7-4 win over the Minnesota Wild at the Prudential Center.
Things started ugly for the Devils. Artem Anisimov tipped in a goal to start the scoring 41 seconds into play, putting the Blackhawks up 1-0.
When Devils can expect Zajac
Miles Wood quickly pulled the Devils even at 1-1 with his fourth goal of the season at 3:40 of the first. He finished a shot following a chaotic play around the net, with Drew Stafford and Taylor Hall getting assists.
But the Blackhawks appeared to blow things open when they scored three straight goals over a 3:20 stretch in the first period. Alex Debrincat, started the scoring at 13:41 for a 2-1 lead, followed by goals from Jan Rutta and Tanner Kero 22 seconds apart.
The Devils’ offense wasn’t going to go quietly. Wood scored his second of the game to get the Devils back within 4-2 before the end of the first period, and it started the string of five straight goals to put the Devils on top.
Defenseman Andy Greene finished a tic-tac-toe play by scoring his second of the season at the left post off passes from Stefan Noesen and Blake Coleman at 3:07 of the second period.
