Authorities say Alexandra Mansonet was on her cell phone when the deadly collision occurred

FREEHOLD — A grand jury Tuesday indicted a Keansburg woman for vehicular homicide in a crash that killed a woman in Hazlet last year, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said.

On the morning of Sept. 28, 2016, Alexandra Mansonet, 48, hit a Toyota Corolla from behind with her 2000 Mercedes as both cars were heading south on Laurel Avenue towards Sixth Street, authorities said.

The Corolla was slowing down to allow pedestrians to cross in the crosswalk when Mansonet struck the vehicle, authorities also said. She was allegedly using her cell phone and never applied the brakes on her car.

The collision pushed the Corolla, which struck Yuwen Wang, 39. Wang was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick, where she died of her injuries Oct. 3, 2016.

Mansonet faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Her arraignment has been scheduled for Dec. 4.
