SAN JOSE — Jay Braun is out as football coach at Oak Grove High, a source close to the program said Wednesday and Braun later confirmed.

Braun had been in a tug-of-war with school officials and prominent names in the storied program’s history since he cursed at an administrator along the sideline during a game and left before its conclusion in early November.

The East Side Union High School District board listened to numerous testimonials over the past three months, both for and against the longtime coach, and gave its verdict to both parties Wednesday, the source said.

Braun’s supporters made a final plea to the board Tuesday during time set aside for public speakers. The board later met in a closed session.

“Despite overwhelming support last night at the board meeting, I was informed this afternoon,” Braun said in a text. “It came back to the night of the events Nov. 3”

Braun said before the decision that he would take the case to arbitration if the board voted against him.

Asked if that still is the case, Braun said, “I have been advised by my attorneys and union to not further comment.”
