Money can change a lot of things — such as Carlos Hyde’s opinion of the Cleveland Browns, apparently.

The former 49ers running back used to spend some of his time in college at Ohio State disparaging the hapless Browns … and any other Cleveland pro sports team.

Carlos Hyde, your thoughts on your new team?

On Wednesday, Hyde became a member of the Browns when he signed a three-year, $15 million contract.

There was a time when Hyde thought so little of the Browns he was convinced his Ohio State Buckeyes could easily beat them.

@TPJCollFootball your crazy we would kill the browns

To be fair, it was six years ago when Hyde disparaged the Browns on social media. Then again, while those 2012 Browns only won five games, that’s one more victory than the Browns have had the last three seasons!

Maybe it was money that called Hyde to Cleveland? Perhaps Hyde, who became a fan favorite in his four years with the 49ers, saw an opportunity to help turn things around in Cleveland? (Things can’t get much worse as last season the Browns were just the second team in NFL history to go 0-16.)

Whatever the reason, it was clear Mike Shanahan and John Lynch were ready to move on from Hyde, who ran for a modest 938 yards last year (or 59 yards per game). After Hyde’s deal was announced, the 49ers quickly replaced him with Jerick McKinnon of the Vikings, who signed a whopping four-year, $30 million deal.
