WALNUT CREEK — Las Lomas guard Robert Prince admitted he was a little tardy getting back to defend after he missed a driving layup and landed on the floor midway through the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s game against Archbishop Mitty.

“I didn’t get back on defense when I should have,” Prince said. “I harp defense so much, (but) I didn’t get back on it.”

It didn’t matter.

The Knights got a stop and the outlet pass from Nathan Robinson came right back to Prince. Robinson then raced up the court and caught a lob pass from Prince for alley-oop dunk that all but sealed one of the biggest wins in the history of the Walnut Creek school.

Prince and Robinson each finished with 25 points as Las Lomas advanced to the Northern California Division I regional final with a 84-70 win over Mitty before a frenzied, standing-room only crowd.

Devin Payne added 19 points for the Knights (30-3). Riley Grigsby had 19 and Devin Sapp had 22 for third-seeded Archbishop Mitty (13-17).

“This was our last home game, so we obviously wanted to come in and make a statement,” Prince said. “We couldn’t come out and lose. Everybody in the city came out, so we just had to put on a show.”

The second-seeded Knights will play No. 8 Palo Alto on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Santa Clara University, marking the first time they’ve advanced this far in the state playoffs since 1988.
