A newborn found abandoned outside a home in Highland Park on Monday has died.
The infant was alive when it was found on the side of the home Monday afternoon but was pronounced dead after it was taken to Robert Wood University Hospital in New Brunswick, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The cause of death has not been announced, but an autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner has been scheduled.
It’s not clear how long the infant had been outside the home when it was found. Authorities did not say whether the baby was a boy or a girl, or if the child had suffered any traumatic injuries.
