The 55-year-old man was being sought in the killing of a 47-year-old man and injured a 26-year-old woman

The murder suspect shot and killed by police Saturday after a multi-town chase has been identified as a 55-year-old Salem County man.

Police shot Jose Pietri, of Pennsville, following a pursuit that stretched from Winslow into Millville, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday. Details of what led to the shooting were not released.

Earlier that day, Pietri allegedly killed Derek White, 47, of Salem, and a seriously injured a 26-year-old Winslow woman, authorities said. Both White and the woman were found in a home in Winslow. Additional details about how they were killed were not released.

After the shooting, police saw Pietri driving a car and tried to stop the vehicle, authorities said. The chase ended in Millville on Holly Berry Lane when police shot Pietri, authorities said. A gun was found nearby, authorities said.

Pietri was taken to Inspira Medical Center Vineland where he was pronounced dead.

One Millville police officer and two Winslow Township officers were involved in the shooting, the prosecutor’s office said.
