Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, governor general of Canada, is set to visit Calgary next week after a stop in Edmonton.

She will be in Edmonton next Tuesday meeting with Premier Rachel Notley and Lieutenant Governor Lois Mitchell, before she addresses members of the Legislative Assembly.

On Wednesday, Payette will kick off her day alongside Dr. Robert Thirsk visiting the Calgary high school named after the former Canadian Space Agency astronaut.

She will hold a discussion with Grade 11 students on space exploration and the feasibility of reaching Mars.

Later that morning, she will visit the NeuroArm at the University of Calgary — an MRI-compatible, image-guided computer-assisted device designed for neurosurgery.

In the afternoon, she will visit WinSport where she will meet with high school students from the National Sport School. After, she will visit the Markin MacPhail Centre to view a t-shirt signed by Team Canada at the 2010 Olympics.

Payette, a former astronaut herself, brought the shirt with her during the Endeavour space mission.

She will finish her visit to Calgary with a tour of the facility and a visit with Olympic Athletes.
