The lobster and filet mignon tacos from La Jolla have arrived in Silicon Valley.

Puesto, a Cal-Mex hot spot known for its upscale tacos on freshly made tortillas, flung open the doors of its mural-filled Santa Clara restaurant today.

Located at the still-growing Santa Clara Marketplace near Highway 101, the 6,000-square-foot restaurant seats about 300.

The inspiration? Co-owner Eric Adler, his brother Alan and their cousin Isidoro Lombrozo conceived of taking authentic Mexico City cuisine and giving the dishes an upscale, farm-to-taco spin. Luisteen Gonzalez is the founding executive chef.

One of Puesto’s signature touches is wrapping taco fillings in a “costra,” a blanket of fried and melted Mexican cheeses. The restaurant also offers a Taco of the Month and a Margarita of the Month. The May creations are the Taco de Puebla, pork shoulder with a spicy dry rub, and the Fruit Cart Margarita.

Puesto’s team started in La Jolla, then branched out with one San Diego location and two in Irvine. The Santa Clara restaurant will be their fifth. Next up will be a location at the Veranda, a new center in Concord.
