There is no way LeBron James will be signing with the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason, according to former Sixers star and Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, because it doesn’t make sense and wouldn’t be good for the Sixers’ young stars.

“He’s not coming to the Sixers,” Barkley said Tuesday on 97.5’s The Mike Missanelli Show, via CBS Sports. “He’s not coming to the Sixers because he needs the ball, (Ben) Simmons needs the ball and (Joel) Embiid needs the ball. That would make Simmons useless. He’s not going to give the ball up at this stage of his career.

Sixers preparing to make run at LeBron with Brett Brown?

“He’s not a great shooter, so you can’t play him off the ball. I guarantee you [defenders] would let him shoot 3s all night. Guys would love him to shoot 3s. … It would hurt Embiid and Simmons going forward.”

Sir Charles may feel that way, but the new king of the city (if only temporarily) isn’t about to give up. Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and tight end Zack Ertz went to Game 4 of the NBA Finals in Cleveland last week, and Wentz kidded it was a recruiting trip to try to lure James away from Cleveland.

“Unfortunately (James) lost, and I didn’t really care who won in that game, but seeing that, seeing him live,” Wentz said after Wednesday’s Eagles minicamp practice. “We decided to make it a recruiting trip. … I hope he is coming.”
