A tractor trailer driver was airlifted with serious injuries after a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike Thursday morning in Secaucus, authorities said.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at mile post 114.7, on the northbound side on the Secaucus-North Bergen border, north of the Exit 17 interchange, at 6:50 am, State Police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was flown to University Hospital in Newark, while the driver of the BMW was treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. News footage from the crash site shows that the tractor trailer flipped on its side, apparently crushing the back end of the BMW.

The crash closed some lanes and backed up traffic on Route 495 to the Lincoln Tunnel. Additional details about the collision were not available.
