UCP Deputy Whip Prab Gill has resigned his role within the party after he was alleged to be involved in voting irregularities during a recent constituency meeting.
UCP spokeswoman Christine Myatt confirmed Gill, who also serves as the MLA for Calgary-Greenway, stepped aside pending the outcome of the investigation.
“In the meantime, MLA Grant Hunter has assumed these duties,” Myatt wrote in an email.
Allegations of ballot stuffing and improper handling of votes at the founding annual general meeting of the UCP’s Calgary-North East constituency association have been circulating online since a video was posted on June 30.
Retired judge Ted Carruthers, who served as president of the Progressive Conservative party before his appointment to the bench in the 1990s, has been engaged to conduct an independent review.
Gill was elected to his riding in 2016 after a by-election was held to replace Manmeet Bhullar, who died in a car accident.
When asked for comment, Myatt said “nobody will be commenting until the investigation has been completed.”
