A wildfire in Northern California that started Thursday has spread over thousands of acres, prompting evacuation orders throughout the area.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire protection announced Thursday morning firefighters were working to contain the 1,000-acre “Camp” fire in Butte County, north of Sacramento. By Thursday afternoon, officials announced the fire had spread over more than 18,000 acres.

Authorities issued evacuation orders for several communities near the blaze, with more than 30,000 people reportedly ordered to evacuate in all.

On Wednesday, Cal Fire had warned that conditions were right for wildfires throughout the state, with high winds and low humidity in the forecast.
