Republicans, Democrats On Filling Justice Seat Before Election

Watch Video Jay Strubberg: “Yeah, Andrew. Some Republicans have said they need the Supreme Court to be at full strength in the event that there is a contested election. Here’s Sen. Lindsey Graham, speaking to Fox News. Let’s listen.”  Sen. Lindsey Graham: “A 4-4 Supreme Court is not a good deal for America. We need a nine person Supreme Court, and people wonder about the peaceful transfer of power. I can assure you it will be peaceful. Now, we may have litigation about who won the election, but the court will decide. And if the Republicans lose, we will accept that result. But we need a full court, and I… Read More

How President’s Supreme Court Nomination Shapes Top Court

Watch Video Kellan Howell: “Now what I found the most interesting about the president’s comments Jay, was that he really emphasized Amy Coney Barrett’s dedication to reading the laws as both a textural list and an originalist. We talked about this a bit earlier. You heard the president emphasis multiple times. Amy Coney Barrett, he said she will decide cases based on the text of the Constitution as written. Why is representative Rho Khanna putting this forward? And is there any chance Republicans in the Senate would support such a bill?” Nathaniel Reed: “Well, any Democratic support. Any support? Excuse me, for this is mostly among Democrats. He’s actually co-sponsored by retiring Rep. Joe Kennedy, who ran for Senate recently in the state of… Read More

EDMONTON — An online survey of Albertans who have reached out for help during the COVID-19 crisis suggests the pandemic is taking a toll on mental health, with increased signs of obsessive behaviour, stress and depression.  “We did not expect people to be experiencing this level of anxiety, depression or stress,” said Vincent Agyapong, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Alberta and co-author of a newly published paper. Agyapong’s research has focused on the lingering mental-health effects of public traumas such as the Fort McMurray wildfire.
