Byu football progress report: Stanford Edition

Despite some procedure problems and the lack of explosive plays in the offensive, the Cougars moved 2-0 for the sixth consecutive season in a 27-3 victory over Stanford cardinal. We are going to break down here.

Offense: C-

I will start with the bright point: LJ Martin. Through two games, Martin looks like a return of all conferences. The night ended with 18 haules for 110 yards, well for an average of 6.1 yards per touch.

Martin broke another career of more than 40 yards and has become an essential weapon for a Byu offensive that seems to be trying to solve things with a true first -year field marshal.

Bear Bachmeier passed for a quiet exit of 175 yards in another output without business volume. He took great success in his sky while looking down, but could hold on to the ball. Bachmeier was 4 of 4 in intermediate passes (10-19 yards in the field) and connected in a 41-yard pump to Chase Roberts.

Looking in person, it still did not seem that they would have given him many opportunities to exhibit his arm, with the offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick marking a lot of passes and screen executions.

The main problem was Redzone’s crime. Byu scored on the six visits, but only two of the trips resulted in TouchDowns. Twice the Couchars began the units within the Stanford line of 20 yards, both of those units ended with field goals. That should be cleaned as the schedule increases after goodbye.

Defense: a

Jack Kelly and Isaiah Glasker can be the best duo as a supporter by has. The amount of pressure and execution things that they really create establishes the tone for defense.

Each of them forced balls in catches and combined for nine cups in total, 3.5 come behind the scrimmage line.

Kelly also helped Faletau Satuala with a security in the third quarter. It seems that Byu will always have an opportunity, provided that Glasker and Kelly are in the field.

After seeing its interception streak of 14 games, it will come to an end last Saturday, the defense forced two today, one of satuala and the other of Raider Damuni.

The defense of the race had some holes sometimes last year, but it looked fantastic in two games in 2025. Jay Hill’s defense in the third year has made the opposite back work for each patio. After maintaining the state of Portland to -5 yards by land last week, Stanford ended with only 19 last night.

The cardinal ran for just under 200 yards in his first game of the season in Hawai’i.

Special equipment: b

Will Ferrin continues to be nails for Byu and extended his streak of nuances to 22 after going 4 by 4 against Stanford. It is a weapon for the Coupars, and if the defense can retain the opposite offenses to the total low points as they have done so far, Ferrin’s leg will win by the byu games.

Cody Hagen had a great return of 44 yards, and Tiger Bachmeier returned a 44 -yard clearance.

Parker Kingston was looking for the ball again on a clear return. Despite some electrical returns in 2024, it should be asked if the special team coordinator Kelly Poppinga seems to make a change in Punt Rurner during the rest week.

In general: B-

The game seemed to crawl a little, but Byu assured a comfortable victory over a P4 opponent and covered the spread of 20.5 points.

The defense played almost perfectly in three quarters, but some errors in the fourth quarter leave some things to work before traveling to face East Carolina on September 20.

In general, it was a solid victory, and the Coupars seem to be among the upper half of the teams in Big 12 again this year.
