This application recreates the magic of the VHS tapes and homemade movies with the videos of your iPhone
If you are old enough to remember VHS tapes (Home System Video), then you will remember that they marked a time when the video felt a little more magical and personal. They were very far from today’s overload digital video exchange sites. It meant something more to record and watch videos in the eighties and ninety years, even if we also had diffuse lines and rupture tapes to support.

The new application Cassette seeks to take advantage of that retro nostalgia. Add a sensation of VHS to the videos that have stored you in the gallery of your iPhone (or iPad), and also aims to recreate that feeling of watching random clips sewn from a camcorder, not only a specific video of your device, but a succession of them, perhaps even surfing some clips that you always forgot.
You can download and use cassette for free, with the random video selection option. If you like the appearance and want to select specific videos, you can pay $ 0.99 per month, $ 5.99 per year or $ 7.99 for access for life to the function.
How to use cassette
Once the application is loaded on your iPhone, give your permission to access your photo and videos of full photos, and will meet with the main interface: an old box television on the top (complete with the VHS player slot) and all its videos stored below, ordered per year. To start looking, touch a year or choose Take me somewhere Choose a random.
A pleasant animation shows the selected VHS tape that is being loaded and its clips begin to reproduce. Cassette will choose videos of the year, showing them one by one in the player in the upper part, complete with a little fuzz and hum artificial. In the lower part you have reproduction controls to pause, jump forward and backward, and jump to another clip of the year at random.
What you cannot do, unless it is subscribed, is to play a specific video miniature that you want to see below. As a free user, you must sit and look at the clips in order, or jump to something random. It is a very pleasant general experience.
For an even more immersive sensation, touch the TV screen at the top. This will show your videos in full screen mode, complete with the VHS stamps of the old school overlapping at the top, showing when and where the video was taken. In this way, you can play once in the clip to mention reproduction controls again; Touch Exect (left end) to return to the main interface.
Configuration and updates

There are a couple of configurations on which it is worth knowing in Cassette, which you can access by touching the three points in the upper right corner of the main interface. The first is Show precise locationsThat, when enabled, it will show video locations in the most precise way possible if GPS information is shown, well at the street level in some cases.
The second lever switch in the configuration is Saved Filter Videos: Turn on this and the application will try to filter videos that you have saved in other applications, so you can concentrate on the original clips you have saved. The idea is that there will be less Instagram and Tiktoks reels in their VHS Retro player while sailing for their memories.
Also on the configuration page, it has options to incline the developer and buy the application, both of which we recommend if you want to admit the independent development of applications. If you continue and update to the professional level of Cassette, you can take advantage of the miniatures every year in any order you want.
There is a feature more worth mentioning: when you make a full video screen, touch anywhere to find the Share button (the arrow at the top of a square). You can use this to share the selected video with other people, move it to another application or even transfer it to a larger screen through AirPlay.
