Jamie Overton from England takes ‘indefinite breakup’ of the red ball cryket | England Cricket Team
Jamie Overton de Surrey, a member of the England’s testing team during this summer’s series against India, has announced that he is taking an indefinite rest of the first -class Cricket, saying that “it was no longer possible to commit completely with all the formats at all levels.”
Overton’s decision means that, instead of being part of the team that travels to Australia for the ashes of this winter, he will be free to honor his contract with the Adelaida strikers in the Big Bash League, with whom he has spent part of the last two winters in the season of the last guests of the team earlier this year after taking 11 wickets and scoring 191 routes in an average of 95.5 in the season of 95.5 2024-25, when Strikers earlier this year.
“After a great thought, I have decided to take an indefinite rest of the red ball cryket,” said the 31 -year -old in a statement. “I feel very lucky to have played 99 first-class games, including two test matches for England. Red-Ball, first-class Cricket has provided the basis of my professional career and has been the entrance door to every opportunity that I have had in the game so far. It is where I learned the game, and fed the objectives and ambitions that have led me for so long.
“However, at this stage of my career, with the demands of the Crick in a 12 -month calendar, it is no longer possible to commit completely with all the formats at all levels, both physically and mentally. In the future, my approach will be in the white ball cryket, and I will continue giving everything to play at the highest level during the time I can.”
The two Overton tests saw him score a memorable 97 in debut against New Zealand in Headingley in 2022 before returning to the team for the dramatic final game against India in the Oval in July, his fifth and last game of the red ball of the last two summers. After playing 11 first -class games in 2022, it has matched that number in the next three combined summers, with back injuries that restrict their appearances in the longest format.
Currently, Overton is in Headingley as part of the England team for the ODI series against South Africa that begins on Tuesday, and has also been appointed in the squadrones of the T20 series against the same opponents and for the series of three games in Ireland that follows.
